DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic violence is not a rarity in the United States and frequently arises in international marriages where the parties didn’t have an opportunity for long term dating and learning about his or her partner. The frequency and severity of domestic violence can vary dramatically; however, the one constant component of domestic violence is one partner’s consistent efforts to maintain power and control over the other.

Domestic violence may consist of physical violence, sexual violence, psychological violence, and emotional abuse.

Without intervention, domestic violence can become more destructive over time and can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and in severe cases, even death.

Domestic violence includes:

  •  Assault and battery
  •  Burglary and criminal trespass
  •  Child neglect
  •  Disorderly conduct
  •  Kidnapping
  •  Physical child abuse
  •  Psychological abuse
  •  Sexual assault and rape
  •  Sexual child abuse
  •  Spousal physical violence
  •  Spousal sexual violence
  •  Unlawful imprisonment
  •  Restraining order violations
  •  Stalking and harassment

It is not always easy to determine in the early stages of a relationship if one person will become abusive. Domestic violence intensifies over time.  If you or your children have been victims of domestic violence, don’t wait, seek for help. Call us at 703-534-5588.
